Tiberius took the curves and turns slowly. He tried not to jostle the precious cargo in the passenger seat; Cath’s head was tilted against the door, mouth fogging up the window. The sound is almost lost beneath the strike of piano keys.
Chrysanthos turns to the bed and the singer begins to croon in a soulful baritone.
His mouth shapes the lyrics in silence as he lies down.
The bed smells of laundry detergent and last night’s love.
Like rosewood and sage.
A few hours pass without ceremony and the quiet room is comforting.
The sun goes down and the room is dark without its light.
